OURFOOD GAP EXPANDS TO THE MUNICIPALITY OF ARGAO, CEBU May 31-June 1, 2016

In cooperation with the local government unit of Argao, more than one hundred farmers have joined the GAP training and orientation with an interest to be GAP certified. The event was attended by more than 4 baranggays in Argao, Province of Cebu.

The training was held at the baranggay hall of Brgy Bayabas, Municipality of Argao. Most of the farmers were also trained under the Farmer-Scientist Program of the Department of Science and Technology Region 7 hence, documentation and recordings are not new to them.

According to the farmers, they wanted to learn more about GAP and will definitely discuss with their individual farmers associations on what is the next steps for their group. They wanted market access and improved productivity.

Farmers reacted to handwashing and sanitation facilities in their farm but were open to complying with the requirements of the standard. They also mentioned that with the local government support, they can surely be GAP certified.

Our next step is to follow up each group and the local agriculture office on their next steps. We have informed them that the next steps will be installation of internal control system which is a 4 series of long trainings.
